Chemical Free Weed Control

ecoweed offer specialist chemical-free weed control methods using environmentally friendly technologies to cost-effectively remove even the most stubborn weeds.

EcoSplash Hot Water Weed Control

Our high temperature machines destroy the cell structure of the plant and kills the upper part at once. After each treatment the plants grow weaker and weaker, until it is eradicated permanently.

Our approach is truly environmentally friendly as there are no chemicals used, just hot water. Using hot water to rid weeds is not a new invention and the first patent was taken out back in the 1880s. However, the hot water weeding method could not be used on a large scale until recent years owing to the inadequacies of the technology.

Thermal weed control is based on transferring energy in the form of heat to the plant, which then distorts the plant's cells. Water is one of nature's best energy carriers and is generally readily available, making the use of hot water the natural choice.

As well as being environmentally friendly and hugely effective, the use of hot water ensures that weed control works are safe and precisely delivered. The low pressure allows for the work to be carried out with precision, whether right up to building façades or a few centimetres away from plants in flowerbeds.

This hugely reduces the risks associated with traditional weed control methods and enables areas affected by weeds to be efficiently treated without damaging the surrounding areas or adjacent plantings.

Hot Water Weed Control Applications

EcoSplash’s hot water solution is suitable for all surfaces. Using very low pressure means that this method is suitable for a huge range of applications - whether hard surfaces, gravel, artificial turf and carpets on sports grounds.

EcoAir

The EcoAir system technology utilises simple propane gas combustion alongside a natural air pressure to surround the targeted weed with a high velocity of heated igas (air).

The large amounts of air being passed through the lance ensure that the lance is safe to touch with this patented technology ensuring maximum effect using the minimum amount of fuel.

EcoAir bursts the cells in the plant leaf, which renders the plant incapable of converting light energy effectively causing starvation.

EcoSweep

Mechanical weed removal offers an environmentally friendly method of weed, moss and algae removal.

A specialist pedestrian sweeper brushes not only remove the offending weeds and moss, but also remove the cause; organic detritus that harbours the moisture that allows the growth.

Sweeper brushes can be used on a variety of hard surfaces such as concrete, tarmac and block paving in car parks, playgrounds, yards, paths and roads.

The Dangers of Chemical Weed Control

Hot water weed control avoids the harmful chemicals used by traditional methods. Chemical herbicides contribute to air, water and soil pollution – not only do they pollute the soil where they have been applied, but rainwater can transfer these harmful chemicals to other areas. As a result, some harmful herbicides end up in waterways where they can kill fish and other aquatic life.

Chemical herbicides pose health dangers to those using and directly exposed to weed killers, as well as people who buy food grown using these chemicals. Direct exposure to herbicides causes skin irritation, while inhaling these harmful chemicals irritates the throat and nasal passages.

More serious health effects from herbicide exposure have been highlighted in recent research into the cancer-causing potential of glyphosate herbicides, the most widely used weedkilling products in the world. This has found that people with high exposures to the popular pesticides have a 41% increased risk of developing a type of cancer called non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Another significant downside of using chemical herbicides is caused by weeds’ ability to adapt to chemicals applied and become increasingly resistant to their intended effects. As a result, it is very common for regular herbicide users to have to use more and more of these chemicals to keep weeds at bay. This stubborn resistance therefore increases herbicide costs for and results in a larger quantity of herbicides in the soil.
